Gadymy Nusaý is an archaeological city in southwestern Turkmenistan, located about 15 km west of the capital, Ashgabat. From the 3rd century BC to the 3rd century AD, there was Old Nisa, where the Parthian royal palace was located, and New Nisa, where the common people lived. Each area is surrounded by a city wall, and the two areas are about 1.5 km apart. Excavations began in the 1930s, and ivory statues and pottery fragments were discovered, which are now kept in the National Museum. In 2007, it was registered as a World Heritage Site (cultural heritage) under the name "Parthian Fortress of Nisa". Source: About Shogakukan Digital Daijisen Information | Legend |
