Nanyo [city] - Nanyo

Japanese: 南陽[市] - なんよう

The city occupies the northern part of the Yonezawa Basin and the mountainous area of the Yoshino River basin in the southern part of Yamagata Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1967. The hot spring town of Akayu, centered around Akayu Onsen (hydrogen sulfide earth spring, 60°C), and Miyauchi, a valley village, are the developed urban areas. The Ou Main Line (Yamagata Shinkansen) runs through the city, and the Yamagata Railway Flower Nagai Line branches off here. The city is a major producer of high-quality grapes and cherries, and is also prolific in Chinese cabbage. Miyauchi has been producing raw silk for a long time. There are also tourist orchards and a hang glider base, which attract tourists. The city suffered damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. 160.52 ^km2 . 33,658 people (2010).

山形県南部，米沢盆地北部と吉野川流域の山地を占める市。1967年市制。赤湯温泉（含硫化水素土類泉，60℃）を中心とする温泉町の赤湯，渓口集落の宮内に市街が発達。奥羽本線（山形新幹線）が通じ，山形鉄道フラワー長井線が分岐。良質のブドウ，サクランボ大産地で，ハクサイも多産。宮内では古くから生糸を産する。観光果樹園や，ハングライダー基地もあって，観光客を集めている。東日本大震災で，市内において被害が発生。160.52km²。３万3658人（2010）。
