Ber Borochov

1881‐1917
An ideological pioneer of the workers' Zionism movement, which aimed to integrate Zionism and socialism. Born in Ukraine, he joined the Russian Social Democratic Party at a young age, but eventually left the party to join the Zionist movement, within which he played an important role in founding the Jewish Workers' Socialist Democratic Party (Poale Zion). His idea that the ultimate goal was socialism and the current goal was Zionism later became the basic principle of the Israeli labor movement. [Shimomura Yuichi]

シオニズムと社会主義の統合をめざす労働者シオニズム運動の理念上の先駆者。ウクライナに生まれ，若くしてロシア社会民主党に入党するが，やがて離党してシオニズム運動に参加し，その内部にユダヤ人労働者社会主義民主党(ポアレ･シオンPoale Zion)を創立する上で重要な役割を果たす。究極の目標は社会主義，現下の目標はシオニズムという彼の考えは，のちのイスラエル労働運動の基本理念となった。【下村由一】
