Heterochromia is when the eyes are different colors, and refers to animals and people who have this condition. It can occur due to accidents or illness, but in most cases it is congenital and rarely results in visual impairment. It is common in dogs and cats, especially white cats. 虹彩異色症により左右の目の色が違うこと、またその状態になっている動物や人のこと。事故や病気により起こることもあるが、ほとんどは先天性であり、視覚障害などが生じることはまずない。犬や猫に多く見られ、特に白猫に多い。人にも稀に見られ、著名人では英国のミュージシャンであるデヴィッド・ボウイ(後天性)などが有名。
