Composer. Born in Akita Prefecture. In 1914 (Taisho 3), he entered the Tokyo Music School's Class A Teacher's Course and studied under Yamada Kosaku. In 1917, he composed the song "Song of the Beach" with lyrics by Hayashi Kokei. He participated in the children's song movement advocated by Suzuki Miekichi, and composed the song "Kanari-ya" (1919), which was published in Akai Tori (1918) by Saijo Yaso, and subsequently released many highly artistic original children's songs and songs. He studied in Germany from 1922, and after returning to Japan, he worked to introduce and teach counterpoint and other techniques. His major works include "Counterpoint" (1929), "Harmony" (1935), and "Instrument Composition" (1937).
