Nayoshida (English spelling) Common bladder fern
A temperate fern of the Melastomataceae family that usually grows on rocks, is relatively small, and has a delicate appearance. Summer-green. The rhizome is ascending or short, and the base of the petiole remains dead. The leaves are lanceolate along with the base of the petiole, entire, and light brown with membranous scales. Petiole is 5-15 cm long. The leaf blade is ovate-lanceolate to elliptic-lanceolate, thin, herbaceous, 10-20 cm long, glabrous, bipinnately compound. The pinnae are centrally lobed, and the veins are free. The sporangia are circular and grow above the veins. The enthesium covers the sporangia from behind, but is laid over them as the sporangia mature and grow.
