A deciduous climbing plant of the Actinidiaceae family. Also known as Chinese currant. Native to southern China, it is also known as the Red Wisteria Pear and the Sheep Peach. Dioecious. White five-petaled flowers bloom in June and July, and the fruit ripens in August and October. The brown fruit, similar to a kiwi, is covered with hairs. The center is cream-colored, with soft seeds clustered in the middle. It is mainly grown in New Zealand. A closely related species, the pear vine A. rufa , grows wild in Japan. マタタビ科の落葉つる植物。シナスグリともいう。中国南部原産で,紅藤梨,羊桃の名がある。雌雄異株。6~7月に白い五弁花をつけ,8~10月に実を熟す。キーウィに似た褐色の果実は,全面に毛をもつ。中心部はクリーム色で中央に軟種子が集まる。ニュージーランドが主産地。日本には近縁種のナシカズラ A. rufaが自生する。
