A deciduous climbing plant of the Actinidiaceae family. Also known as Chinese currant. Native to southern China, it is also known as the Red Wisteria Pear and the Sheep Peach. Dioecious. White five-petaled flowers bloom in June and July, and the fruit ripens in August and October. The brown fruit, similar to a kiwi, is covered with hairs. The center is cream-colored, with soft seeds clustered in the middle. It is mainly grown in New Zealand. A closely related species, the pear vine A. rufa , grows wild in Japan.
