Acceptor

Something that accepts electrons from the valence band in a semiconductor (supplies a hole). In Ge and Si, this refers to elements from group 13 of the periodic table, and in semiconductors from groups 13 to 15, these are elements from groups 12 or 14 that have substituted for atoms in the host material, as well as excess negative ions in compound semiconductors. Also, vacancies that have lost positive ions tend to become acceptors, and in the band model they are located near the top of the valence band within the forbidden band, creating an acceptor level. Shallow acceptor levels ionize with thermal energy at about room temperature, and supply free holes to the valence band. [See other terms] Donor, p-type semiconductor

半導体中で価電子帯から電子を受けとる(正孔を供給する)もの．GeやSiでは周期表13族元素，13～15族半導体では12または14族元素が母体中の原子と置換したもの，および化合物半導体中での過剰な負イオン．また，正イオンの抜けた空格子点はアクセプターになりやすく，バンドモデルにおいて禁止帯内で価電子帯の上端付近に位置しアクセプター準位をつくる．浅いアクセプター準位は室温程度の熱エネルギーでイオン化し，価電子帯に自由正孔を供給する．[別用語参照]ドナー，p型半導体
