The legend of the reed

...These stories are also the reason why travelers long for home when they see wild geese. There is also the legend of the reed that a traveler holds in his mouth a stalk of reed to protect himself from igurumi (a hunting tool in which a string or net is attached to an arrow and shot, and then the bird is entangled and caught). This is the origin of the legend that wild geese throw away reeds and rest on them when they cross the sea.
