Stock investment means buying stocks, which means investing money in shares issued by a corporation to become a shareholder and acquire shareholder rights. Shareholder rights include the right to participate in management, the right to receive dividends, and the right to receive residual assets in the event of a company being dissolved. However, stock investment usually involves acquiring the right to receive dividends, making a profit from a rise in stock prices, or both. There are two purposes for stock investment: acquiring stocks as an asset, and primarily making a profit from price increases.
