Nanayama [village] - Nanayama

Japanese: 七山[村] - ななやま

A village in Higashi Matsuura County in northern Saga Prefecture. Population 2,869 (1995). It borders Fukuoka Prefecture to the north, separated by the Sefuri Mountains. It is a mountain village that occupies the southwestern slope of the Sefuri Mountains in the north and the northern edge of the Tianshan mountain range in the south. The rivers flowing through the mountains join together to form the Tamashima River, which flows west and enters Hamatama Town. On the ridge of Ukidake (Yoshiiyama, 805m) on the border with Fukuoka Prefecture, there are Shiraki Pass and Arakawa Pass, which have long been passes connecting Hizen and Chikuzen. In the Middle Ages, the area was under the control of the Kusano clan, who were the chief priests of Kagami Shrine (present-day Karatsu City) and had their castle in Onigajo (present-day Hamatama Town).

佐賀県北部，東松浦郡の村。人口2869(1995)。北は脊振山地を境に福岡県に接する。北部は脊振山地の南西斜面，南部は天山山系の北縁を占める山村で，山間を流れる諸河川は合して玉島川となり，西流して浜玉町に入る。福岡県境にある浮岳(吉井山。805m)の稜線上には白木峠，荒川峠などがあり，古くから肥前と筑前とを結ぶ峠であった。一帯は，中世には鏡神社(現，唐津市)の大宮司で鬼ヶ城(現，浜玉町)に居城した草野氏の支配下にあった。
