Coleoptera, Ladybird family. Body length about 8mm. The body is hemispherical, and the head is mostly hidden under the pronotum. The pronotum is black, and there are yellowish-white spots on both sides of the front edge that look like eyes. The head and underside of the body are black. The upper wings are orange-yellow, and there are four black spots on each side, one of which is on the suture line near the base, and when they join together they look like a circle, hence the name Seven Spots. Both larvae and adults are natural enemies of aphids, and prey on them. Widely distributed in Eurasia, those found in Japan except for the Ryukyu Islands are called the subspecies C. s. bruckii , and those found south of the Tokara Islands, China, Siberia, and Europe are a subspecies with smaller upper wing spots, and are called the Common Seven Spots Ladybird.
