The name of the theater company. Founded in 1951 (Showa 26) by composer Hara Taro (1904-88) in Shinjuku, Tokyo, under the name of the "Umi Tsubame Orchestra," the company toured various places with its comrades under the slogan "In the public's square, with the public's ideas, in the public's hearts." After performing at the Poplar Theater, the company moved its base to Tazawako Sotsuda, Senboku City, Akita Prefecture in 1953 and changed its name to the Warabi Theater, aiming to create new folk song and dance dramas (group dance dramas) using Japanese folk songs and dance. In 1974, the company completed the Warabi Theater (seats 1,000), and the following year the Warabi Hall. In 1996 (Heisei 8), the company moved its center of activity to Tazawako Art Village and changed its name to the Warabi Theater. The company has also performed overseas, including in Asian countries and Brazil. The company lives a unique communal lifestyle with a fixed salary and medical and educational support. His representative works include "Demons of Tohoku," "Offshore Rapeseed Flowers," and "Aterui."
