Appalachian [mountain range] - Appalachian

Japanese: アパラチア[山脈] - アパラチア
Appalachian [mountain range] - Appalachian
A large mountain range in eastern North America. It stretches from southeastern Canada southwest to the state of Alabama in the United States, with a total length of about 2,600 km and a width of 300 to 600 km. It separates the central plains and coastal plains of the United States. It is made up of parallel mountain ranges such as the Green, White, Allegheny, Blue Ridge, and Cumberland, and is hilly and plateau-like in nature, but in the south it forms a mountainous region. The highest point is Mount Mitchell. It has well-developed vertical valleys and few horizontal valleys, which were a major barrier to westward movement during the pioneering era, but the Hudson-Mohawk Valley and Cumberland Gorge were used as pioneer routes. It belongs to the Paleozoic folded mountain range, and produces coal, oil, and iron ore. In the 1930s, the TVA promoted regional development.
