Mount Nachi

Japanese: 那智山 - なちざん

A collective name for Mt. Okumotori (966m) and Mt. Myoho (749m) in the northern part of Nachikatsuura Town, Wakayama Prefecture. Since ancient times, many ascetics have entered the mountain due to the belief that Kumano is the land of roots and eternal life, and it has also been considered Fudaraku Pure Land. At the northern foot of Mt. Myoho are Kumano Nachi Taisha Shrine, one of the Kumano Sanzan, and Seiganto-ji Temple, the first temple of the Thirty-Three Temples of the Western Provinces. The entire mountain is covered in primeval forests of cedar and cypress (natural monuments), and Nachi Falls is located in the north. It is part of Yoshino-Kumano National Park. In 2004, the Kii Mountain Range was registered on the World Heritage List of Cultural Heritage under the World Heritage Convention as a sacred site and pilgrimage route.

和歌山県那智勝浦町北部にある大雲取山（966m），妙法山（749m）などの総称。熊野を根の国・常世国とする信仰により古くから多くの修行者が入山し，また補陀落(ふだらく)浄土とされた。妙法山北麓に熊野三山の熊野那智大社，西国三十三所第１番札所青岸渡(せいがんと)寺がある。全山スギ，ヒノキの原始林（天然記念物）におおわれ，北部には那智滝があり，吉野熊野国立公園に属する。2004年紀伊山地の霊場と参詣道として世界遺産条約の文化遺産リストに登録された。
