Colored Edo tsuma

...It is said that this name comes from the fact that it was worn by women in the Edo Ooku. It was during the Bunka and Bunsei eras (1804-30) that the black crepe Edo-tsuma with the family crest spread to the general public as a ceremonial dress for married women, and until before World War II, a long kimono with a black five-crest Edo-tsuma pattern was worn by married women, while a colored Edo-tsuma, combined with a round obi, was worn by unmarried women.
