The leaves are glossy green, broadly linear, 15-30 cm long, and have 4-8 leaves that grow upright, fleshy, and have a gutter-like indentation on the inside. In spring, a 15-45 cm tall flower stalk grows and produces multiple clusters of 6-12 flowers. The flowers are funnel-shaped, 2-3 cm in diameter, or sideways, and the upper part of the perianth opens into six lobes. It has a long history of improvement in Europe, and there are many varieties. The Roman hyacinth variety is usually cultivated, and the flower color is usually bluish purple, but there are also red, white, purple, and yellow varieties, and double-flowered varieties.
