Nasreddin Hoca

He is the protagonist of humorous and witty tales handed down mainly in Anatolia, but also among the Turks and in the former Ottoman Empire. In Arabic, Persian and Turkish literature, such tales belong to the genre called laṭīfa. There are currently more than 550 humorous and witty tales with Nasreddin Khodja as the protagonist. Turks generally consider him to have been a real person, and there is a mausoleum said to be his on the outskirts of Akşehir, Turkey.

アナトリアを中心とし，広くトルコ族の間，さらに，かつてのオスマン帝国の領土内で語り伝えられている滑稽･頓智譚の主人公。このような話は，アラブ，ペルシア，トルコの文学ではラティーファlaṭīfaと呼ばれるジャンルに属する。ナスレッディン･ホジャを主人公とする滑稽･頓智譚は，現在，550話以上にのぼる。トルコ人は，だいたいにおいて彼を実在の人物と考え，トルコのアクシェヒルAkşehirの郊外には，彼の霊廟といわれるものが現存する。
