Generally, it refers to the small amount of capital contributions that members of an organization (ko) (koshu, shuchu) brought to each meeting in medieval monetary lending methods such as tanomosi and mujin. It also meant money wagered in gambling, linked poetry gatherings, tea gatherings, and other competitive events. In addition, kakesen also referred to money temporarily levied by manor lords on their subjects. It is also read as "kakesen." This term emerged as a result of the widespread circulation of currency in the Middle Ages, especially after the late Kamakura period. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
