Bolotnikov, I.

…the first Russian peasant war (summer 1606–October 1607), led by Ivan Bolotnikov (?-1608). This revolt, which was to become a key factor in the Smuta, arose as a reaction against the oppression of the peasants and horopes (slaves) that had been rapidly increasing since the 16th century.
