[Founder] National University Corporation Nagoya University [Background and history] <Nagoya University> In 1871 (Meiji 4), a temporary hospital and temporary medical school were established. In 1876 (Meiji 9), it was renamed Public Medical Institute. In 1878 (Meiji 11), it was renamed Public Medical School. In 1881 (Meiji 13), it was renamed Aichi Medical School. In 1901 (Meiji 34), it was renamed Aichi Prefectural Medical School. In 1903 (Meiji 36), it was renamed Aichi Prefectural Medical College. In 1920 (Taisho 9), it was renamed Aichi Medical University. In 1931 (Showa 6), it was renamed Nagoya Medical University. In 1939 (Showa 14), it was renamed Nagoya Imperial University. In 1947 (Showa 22), it was renamed Nagoya University. <The Eighth High School> In 1908 (Meiji 41), the Eighth High School opened. <Nagoya College of Economics> Nagoya Higher Commercial School opened in 1920 (Taisho 9). In 1944 (Showa 19), it was separated into Nagoya Technical Management College and Nagoya Technical School of Economics. In 1946 (Showa 21), Nagoya Technical Management College and Nagoya Technical School of Economics were merged and renamed Nagoya Technical School of Economics. <Okazaki Higher Normal School> Okazaki Higher Normal School opened in 1945 (Showa 20). <Unification> Nagoya University, The Eighth High School, Nagoya Technical School of Economics and Okazaki Higher Normal School were merged in 1949 (Showa 24) to establish Nagoya University. In April 2004 (Heisei 16), it became Nagoya University, a National University Corporation.
[Campus] Higashiyama Campus (Chikusa-ku, Nagoya) / Tsurumai Campus (Showa-ku, Nagoya) / Taiko Campus (Higashi-ku, Nagoya) / Toyokawa Campus (Toyokawa)
[Marks] The school emblem was officially established in 1998 (Heisei 10). It is a combination of the initials "nu" of Nagoya University and "Meidai" written in seal script. It is commonly known as the NU mark. It is based on the design of a student badge that was selected through an open student competition in 1958 (Showa 33). It was registered as a trademark (No. 4832351) in January 2005 (Heisei 17).

[沿革・歴史]〈名古屋大学〉1871(明治4)年、仮病院・仮医学校を設立。1876(明治9)年、公立医学所と改称。1878(明治11)年、公立医学校と改称。1881(明治13)年、愛知医学校と改称。1901(明治34)年、愛知県立医学校と改称。1903(明治36)年、愛知県立医学専門学校と改称。1920(大正9)年、愛知医科大学と改称。1931(昭和6)年、名古屋医科大学と改称。1939(昭和14)年、名古屋帝国大学と改称。1947(昭和22)年、名古屋大学と改称。〈第八高等学校〉1908(明治41)年、第八高等学校が開校。〈名古屋経済専門学校〉1920(大正9)年、名古屋高等商業学校が開校。1944(昭和19)年、名古屋工業経営専門学校・名古屋経済専門学校に分離。1946(昭和21)年、名古屋工業経営専門学校・名古屋経済専門学校を統合し、名古屋経済専門学校と改称。〈岡崎高等師範学校〉1945(昭和20)年、岡崎高等師範学校が開校。〈統合〉1949(昭和24)年、名古屋大学・第八高等学校・名古屋経済専門学校・岡崎高等師範学校を統合し、名古屋大学を設置。2004(平成16)年4月、国立大学法人名古屋大学となる。
[キャンパス]東山キャンパス(名古屋市千種区)/鶴舞キャンパス(名古屋市昭和区)/大幸キャンパス(名古屋市東区)/豊川キャンパス(豊川市)
[マーク類]1998(平成10)年、学章を正式規定。Nagoya Universityの頭文字「nu」に篆書体の「名大」を合成したもの。通称は、NUマーク。1958(昭和33)年に学生公募で選ばれた学生バッジのデザインがもとになっている。2005(平成17)年1月、商標登録済(第4832351号)。
