Stone knife

Japanese:
Stone knife

One of the polished stone tools from the late Jomon period. It is a stone tool with a shape similar to a Japanese sword, with a wedge-shaped cross section and a blade on one edge. There is a blade groove where the blade meets the handle, and the head is bumpy like a stone club or stone sword, and some are decorated with patterns. In rare cases, there are grooves or patterns on the back. It differs from a Japanese sword in that the entire tool is curved inward. It is distributed mainly from southwestern Hokkaido to the Tohoku region, and spreads west to the Kinki region. There are also examples of it being buried as grave goods in pit tombs, and it is thought that it was used as a non-practical tool rather than for practical purposes. Many are made of chlorite schist and slate.
