Nakanoin family

Nakanoin family

A family of the Murakami Genji. In the early Kamakura period, Michikata, the fifth son of Michichika, the fifth-generation grandson of Morofusa, the grandson of Emperor Murakami who was given the Minamoto surname, branched off and became the founder of the Nakain family. His son Michinari became the Minister of the Interior, and the Nakain family became a ministerial family with the Minister of the Interior as its highest official. From Michihide in the Muromachi period to Michimi in the mid-Edo period, the family received the Kokin Tenju teachings for successive generations, and was known as a family of scholars. Along with Michihide, Michikatsu and Michimura were particularly famous as scholars. As Michimura's mother was the daughter of Hosokawa Yusai, there were many marriages with samurai families in the early modern period. In the late early modern period, he was not blessed with a son, so he adopted a son from the Kuze family and other families. His stipend in the early modern period was initially 300 koku, but later increased to 500 koku. After the Meiji Restoration, he was ranked in the nobility and given the title of count.
