[Money exchange shop in Osaka]
Money exchangers flourished in the three major cities, with Osaka having the longest history. The money exchange business began with Tennojiya Gobei, and was later joined by Kobashiya Jyotoku and Kagiya Rokubei. In 1662 (Kanbun 2), both Tennojiya and Gobei began to serve the shogunate. It was in this year that the name money exchanger was officially recognized.
