Tsuruzo Nagaoka

Japanese: 永岡鶴蔵 - ながおかつるぞう

1864 ^* - 1914 A labor activist in the Meiji period.
Born December 9, 1860. He studied Christianity while working in coal mines in various places. In 1902, he founded the Dai Nippon Rodo Shiseikai (Great Japan Labor Association) with Minami Sukematsu at the Yubari coal mine in Hokkaido, and in 1906, he established the Ashio branch of the association at the Ashio copper mine in Tochigi Prefecture, but was imprisoned as a ringleader in a riot in 1914 (though he was found not guilty at trial). He died February 10, 1914. He was 52 years old. He was from Yamato (Nara Prefecture). His maiden name was Nakai.

文久3年12月9日生まれ。各地の炭坑ではたらきながら,キリスト教をまなぶ。明治35年北海道夕張炭鉱で南助松と大日本労働至誠会をつくり,39年栃木県足尾銅山で同会足尾支部を発足させるが,40年の暴動事件で首謀者として投獄された(裁判で無罪)。大正3年2月10日死去。52歳。大和(奈良県)出身。旧姓は中井。
