Born December 9, 1860. He studied Christianity while working in coal mines in various places. In 1902, he founded the Dai Nippon Rodo Shiseikai (Great Japan Labor Association) with Minami Sukematsu at the Yubari coal mine in Hokkaido, and in 1906, he established the Ashio branch of the association at the Ashio copper mine in Tochigi Prefecture, but was imprisoned as a ringleader in a riot in 1914 (though he was found not guilty at trial). He died February 10, 1914. He was 52 years old. He was from Yamato (Nara Prefecture). His maiden name was Nakai.
