Native (wild) species

Japanese: 野生種 - やせいしゅ（英語表記）native (wild) species

A wild species that is the same or closely related to cultivated or domesticated crops and livestock. In particular, wild species that are considered to be the direct ancestors of crops and livestock are called wild ancestral species. In the case of the Oryza genus, there are nearly 20 known wild species, namely wild rice. The wild ancestral species of cultivated rice has been identified, but the wild ancestral species of some crops have already disappeared or have not been identified. In the case of wheat, there are three groups: elate wheat, double grain wheat, and timophebian wheat, each of which has one wild species, but common wheat, represented by bread wheat, is only a cultivated species and no wild species are known.

栽培･飼育化されている作物，家畜と同一種あるいは近縁種のもので，野生の生物種のこと。とくに作物，家畜の直接の祖先とされる野生種は野生祖先種といわれる。イネ属の例では，20種近い野生種，すなわち野生稲が知られている。栽培イネは野生祖先種が判明しているが，現在すでに野生祖先種が消滅していたり，同定がされていない作物もある。コムギの例では，一粒系コムギ，二粒系コムギ，チモフェービ系コムギの3群で，それぞれ1種の野生種が存在しているが，パンコムギで代表される普通系コムギは，栽培種ばかりで野生種は知られていない。
