…Islamic art refers to the architecture, paintings, and crafts created over a period of about 1,200 years in the Islamic world, mainly in Western Asia and North Africa, from the 7th century to the 18th century, when Islamic art began to lose its uniqueness. However, because its content spans both the sacred and secular, it cannot be considered in the same category as Christian art or Buddhist art, even though it progressed alongside the development of Islam. Islamic art began with the art of Sassanid Persia (Sassanid art) and the ancient Mediterranean world, and established its own unique style while absorbing the indigenous traditions of the conquered territories. …
