A general term for the world-famous flowering trees Magnolia quinquepeta (Buchoz) Dandy (= M. liliflora Desr.) (Chinese name: Shin'i) (illustration) and White Magnolia M. heptapeta (Buchoz) Dandy (= M. denudata Desr.) (Chinese name: Tamaran). Sometimes it simply refers to Magnolia alone.
