Naka [town] - Naka
An old town in Naka District, Ibaraki Prefecture, bordering the north of Mito City. Its center is Sugaya, where the Suigun Line and Joban Expressway pass. Rice fields are spread across a flat plateau. It produces rice, burdock, Chinese yam, and pumpkin. Many people commute to Mito and Hitachinaka. In January 2005, it merged with Urizura Town, Naka District, to become a city, Naka City. Area: 83.14 km2 . Population: 47,242 (2003).
