A table with a vanity mirror and drawers. Appearing in Europe in the late 17th century, vanity tables with drawers and a rotating mirror attached to the base were the first to become popular. In the 18th century, the structure and shape of vanity tables became more complex and elaborate. The mirror attached to the base was built into a drawer in the center of the table, and double-sided vanity tables with drawers with partitions on either side became popular. In late 18th century France, when salon culture was at its peak, a small vanity table called a poudreuse was designed for ladies. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
