This small sutra, consisting of over 420 characters and included in the Dai Nihon Zozanggye, is a sutra for the purpose of saving women who have fallen into hell due to the impurity of blood. It was widely circulated in China during the Ming and Qing dynasties, and there are versions by Buddhism, Taoism, and certain religious organizations, and although the contents differ somewhat, all of them teach that those who have committed crimes related to blood will fall into the blood pond hell, whereas the Japanese version of the Blood Pond Sutra says that only women who have defiled earth gods or water gods with blood from childbirth or lunar water will fall into this hell.
