Oitama Tsumugi

Japanese: 置賜紬 - おいたまつむぎ

A regional brand of Yamagata prefecture, Tohoku region.
A general term for textiles produced in the Okitama region in the southern part of Yamagata Prefecture. Shirataka Town produces Shirataka Itajime Kokasuri and Yoneryu Itajime Kokasuri using simple, traditional techniques, Nagai City produces Weft-So Kasuri and Combined Kasuri, and Yonezawa City produces Kusazome Tsumugi and Safflower-zome Tsumugi, all of which are yarn-dyed plain weaves with a rustic, rustic feel. In February 1976, the Minister of International Trade and Industry (currently the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry) designated them as traditional crafts of Japan.

東北地方、山形県の地域ブランド。
山形県南部に位置する置賜地方で生産されている織物の総称。白鷹町では素朴で伝統的な技法を用いた白鷹板締小絣・米琉板締小絣、長井市では緯総絣・併用絣、米沢市では草木染紬・紅花染紬がつくられ、いずれも先染めの平織で野趣に富む素朴な風合が特徴である。1976(昭和51)年2月、通商産業大臣(現・経済産業大臣)によって国の伝統的工芸品に指定。
