A regional brand of Yamagata prefecture, Tohoku region. A general term for textiles produced in the Okitama region in the southern part of Yamagata Prefecture. Shirataka Town produces Shirataka Itajime Kokasuri and Yoneryu Itajime Kokasuri using simple, traditional techniques, Nagai City produces Weft-So Kasuri and Combined Kasuri, and Yonezawa City produces Kusazome Tsumugi and Safflower-zome Tsumugi, all of which are yarn-dyed plain weaves with a rustic, rustic feel. In February 1976, the Minister of International Trade and Industry (currently the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry) designated them as traditional crafts of Japan.
