Japanese: ヨザル(夜猿) - ヨザル（英語表記）night monkey

New World monkeys of the Capuchin family of primates (illustration). The only nocturnal species among anthropoid monkeys, they are also called owl monkeys or ghost monkeys because of the shape of their faces. They are found in a wide area from Central America to central and northern South America. There is only one species in one genus, but there are large regional variations and they are divided into 10 subspecies. The head and body length is 24-48cm. The tail length is long, 22-42cm, but unlike capuchin, howler and spider monkeys, they cannot wrap their tails around trees to support their bodies. They weigh 0.8-1.3kg.

霊長目オマキザル科の新世界ザル（イラスト）。真猿類中唯一の夜行性の種で，顔つきからフクロウザル，オバケザルとも呼ばれる。中央アメリカから南アメリカの中･北部にかけての広い地域に分布する。1属1種であるが，地域的変異が大きく10亜種に分けられる。頭胴長は24～48cm。尾長は22～42cmと長いが，オマキザルやホエザル，クモザルのように尾を木に巻きつけて体を支えることはできない。体重は0.8～1.3kg。
