Dohran (English spelling) German

A colloquial name for grease paint, an oil-based powder used in stage makeup. Max Factor's Panstick is a well-known example, and is mainly used as a base color under powder. It is stick-shaped and often comes packaged in oil-resistant paper. In Japan, the German company Dolan was the first to promote this type of powder widely, so the company name became the nickname. After World War II, the technology for manufacturing stage makeup supplies advanced in Japan as well, and Mitsuyoshi products are known for their use in theater, film, and television makeup.

舞台化粧に使われる油性おしろいで、グリース・ペイントgrease paintとよばれるものの俗称。マックス・ファクター社のパンスティックPanstickが有名で、主としておしろい下の地塗り色として使われる。形は棒状で、耐油性の紙で包装されたものが多い。日本では、初めドイツのドーラン社がとくに広くこの種のおしろいを宣伝したので、社名がそのまま通称名となった。第二次世界大戦後は日本でも舞台化粧用品の製作技術が進み、とくに演劇、映画、テレビのメークアップ用として、三善(みつよし)の製品がある。
