Heibei Tominaga

Date of birth and death unknown. Kabuki playwright. He started out as an actor and became a playwright around 1673 (Enpo 1), and was active in Kyoto and Osaka until around 1697 (Genroku 10). Until then, Kabuki playwrights had only existed among insiders, but in 1680 he was the first to be listed as a "Kyogen creator" on the ranking list, creating an opportunity for famous playwrights such as Chikamatsu Monzaemon to appear. He is also said to be the author of "Yomekagami," one of the three great works of Genroku Kabuki. He left behind "Geikagami," the only valuable book that outlines the outline of Kabuki from the Kanbun period (1661-1673).

生没年不詳。歌舞伎(かぶき)作者。俳優出身で1673年（延宝1）ごろから作者となり、97年（元禄10）ごろまで京坂で活躍した。それまで内輪の存在でしかなかった歌舞伎作者のなかで、80年に初めて番付上に「狂言作り」を称し、近松門左衛門ら名作者の登場する機運をつくりだした。元禄(げんろく)歌舞伎の三大作の一つ『嫁鏡(よめかがみ)』の作者とも伝えられる。寛文(かんぶん)期（1661～73）ごろの歌舞伎の粗筋を書いた書として唯一貴重な『芸鑑(げいかがみ)』を残す。
