A former town in Inba County, located in the center of the Shimousa Plateau in northern Chiba Prefecture. During the Edo period, Uchino Pasture and Koya Pasture were established here, two of the seven Sakura Pastures that were directly controlled by the shogunate. Vegetable and fruit cultivation, such as watermelons, carrots, and peanuts, is thriving here. The Tomisato Industrial Park was completed in 1970. The Tomisato Interchange on the Higashi-Kanto Expressway opened in 1971. In April 2002, the town was incorporated as a city, becoming Tomisato City. Area: 53.91 km2 . Population: 48,666 (1995). 千葉県北部,下総(しもうさ)台地の中央部にある印旛(いんば)郡の旧町。江戸時代,幕府直轄の放牧地である佐倉七牧のうち,内野牧,高野(こうや)牧が置かれた。スイカ,ニンジン,ラッカセイなど蔬菜,果樹栽培が盛ん。1970年富里工業団地完成。1971年東関東自動車道富里インターチェンジ開設。2002年4月,市制施行し,富里市となる。53.91km2。4万8666人(1995)。
