Public notice - public notice
〘noun〙 A method of serving litigation documents. When the address of the parties is unknown or normal service methods cannot be used, the documents are posted for a certain period of time in the court's bulletin board or other public notice. It has the same effect as serving the documents in person. ※Civil Procedure Code (1890), Article 157: "Service by public notice shall be handled by the court clerk."

〘名〙 訴訟関係書類の送達方法の一つ。当事者の住居所の不明な場合、または通常の送達方法によることができない場合などに、その書類を一定期間、裁判所の掲示場などに掲載して公示するもの。本人に送達したと同一の効力を生ずる。※民事訴訟法(明治二三年)(1890)一五七条「公示送達は〈略〉裁判所書記之を取扱ふ」
