This is a record written by Tanaka Denzaemon, the 6th head kabuki musician. The date of completion is unknown. It is a valuable resource consisting of a history book of the three Edo theaters and 55 chapters, detailing the customs, stories, anecdotes, and secret teachings of Edo kabuki, with a focus on the music. However, the original no longer exists, and two versions have been recognized. (1) The Machida version, which was copied in 1924 by Machida Yoshiaki from a copy (lost) by Kineya Kangoro, the 11th head kabuki musician, which was passed on to Kineya Rokushiro, the 3rd head kabuki musician. (2) A reference by Sekine Tadamasa in his "Chronology of the Theater" and "Thoughts on Kabuki Dojoji" (the original no longer exists). Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
