An Official Guide to Eastern Asia

…It is difficult to say that Japanese travel guidebooks meet international standards in terms of the appropriateness of the information covered, the accuracy of the maps, and the reliability of the evaluations. However, from 1913 to 1917, the then Railway Bureau published a five-volume set of "An Official Guide to Eastern Asia" in English, which was highly praised internationally. In particular, the China edition was the only book of its kind until "N'Ajjer" published "China Guide" in 1966, and was considered a valuable resource.
