A monk from the early Tang Dynasty in China. The first founder of the Kegon sect. His honorific title was Teishin Venerable. His given name was Fashun. He was from Wannian County, Yongzhou (Shaanxi Province). He became a monk at the age of 18, studied meditation under Sochin, a monk at Insho Temple, and manifested various supernatural powers. His name eventually reached the imperial court, and according to one theory, he was given the title of "Teishin" by Emperor Taizong (Li Shimin) in 632 (the 6th year of the Zhenguan era). After his death, he was considered the first founder of the Kegon sect, and also came to be regarded as an incarnation of Manjusri. He is said to have written one volume of "Hokaikanmon," but there are many doubts about this.
