Tosabo Shoshun

Japanese: 土佐坊昌俊 - とさのぼうしょうしゅん

A monk from the end of the Heian period to the early Kamakura period. Dates of birth and death unknown. His name appears among Minamoto Noriyori's army in pursuit of the Taira clan in 1184 (Genryaku 1). In January of 1185 (Bunji 1), he fought as a member of Noriyori's army, moving from Suo to Bungo, and was active as a military commander in the Shogunate army. When Minamoto Yoshitsune rebelled, Masatoshi willingly accepted the task of pursuing Yoshitsune and traveled to Kyoto, but failed. In 1191 (Kenkyu 2), Masatoshi's aged mother met with Minamoto no Yoritomo to discuss her late son Masatoshi. [Oda Yuzo]

平安末期～鎌倉初期の僧。生没年不詳。1184年(元暦1)平氏追討のための源範頼軍の中にその名が見える。85年(文治1)正月，範頼軍の一員として周防から豊後へ転戦するなど，幕府軍の武将として活躍している。源義経が背くと，昌俊は義経追討を進んでひきうけ上洛するが，失敗に終わった。91年(建久2)，昌俊の老母が亡息昌俊について源頼朝に面会･談合している。【小田雄三】
