A general term for insects belonging to the superfamily Tipuloidea in the order Diptera. They are found widely throughout the world. Crane fly means "mother mosquito" and was originally called Kaganbo, but the name became widespread and is still used today. Dialects include Kanooba, Katombo, and Asinaga. In general, their body shape resembles that of a mosquito, but they are large and have long legs that make them easy to catch. The veins at the tip of the wings are finely branched, and they have a central chamber that is not found in the Culicidae family. They are classified according to the venation and the presence or absence of an eye, and are divided into families such as the crane fly, the white-ribbed crane fly, the small-mega-gum fly, the false small-mega-gum fly, and the small-spotted crane fly.
