Japanese: 鹿角[市] - かづの

A city in northeastern Akita Prefecture. In 1972, the towns of Hanawa, Towada, and Osarizawa in Kazuno County merged with the village of Hachimantai to form a city. The central city of Hanawa has been the administrative and economic center of the Kazuno region since the feudal era, and Osarizawa was a settlement associated with one of Japan's leading copper mines (closed in 1978) since early modern times. The Hanawa Line runs through the area, and the Tohoku Expressway runs through it. The alluvial lowlands are used for rice paddies, and the foothills for apple and other fruit orchards. Vegetable cultivation and dairy and beef cattle breeding are also active. The main settlement in the Towada area is Kemanai, the southern base for tourism in Towada. There is Oyu Onsen and the Oyu Stone Circle. The remains of the Osarizawa Mine attract tourists as the "Osarizawa Mine Historic Site." The area is 707.52 ^km2 . Population: 34,473 (2010).

秋田県北東部の市。1972年鹿角郡の花輪，十和田，尾去沢の各町と八幡平(はちまんたい)村が合体し市制。中心市街の花輪は藩政時代から鹿角地方の行政，経済の中心で，尾去沢は近世から日本有数の銅山（1978年閉山）集落であった。花輪線が通じ，東北自動車道が縦貫する。沖積低地は水田，山麓はリンゴなどの果樹園に利用され，野菜栽培，乳用牛・肉牛飼育も活発。十和田地区の主集落は毛馬内(けまない)で，十和田観光の南側の基地。大湯温泉，大湯環状列石がある。尾去沢鉱山跡は〈史跡尾去沢鉱山〉として観光客を集めている。707.52km²。３万4473人（2010）。
