Exekias

Ancient Greek potter and pottery painter. Active from around 550 to 525 BC. His name is inscribed on 13 works. He is considered the perfector of Attic black-figure pottery due to his strict and delicate expression. His representative surviving works are the black-figure amphora "Achilles and Ajax Playing Chess" (Vatican Museum) and the black-figure kylix "The Voyage of Dionysus" (c. 530 BC, Glyptothek, Munich).

古代ギリシアの陶工，陶画家。前550～前525年頃に活躍。13の作品にその名が刻まれている。厳格で繊細な表現からアッチカ黒像式陶器の完成者と目されている。現存する代表作は黒像式アンフォラ『将棋をさすアキレウスとアイアス』（バチカン美術館），黒像式キュリクス『ディオニュソスの船出』（前530頃，ミュンヘン，グリュプトテーク）。
