During the Northern Song Dynasty, the True Zen sect gave him the honorific title of "Great Heavenly Emperor of the Great Shang Opening Heaven and the History of the True Body of Taoism" in 1014 (the 7th year of the Great Song Dynasty), and Emperor Huizong had statues of him erected in Taoist temples all over the country, leading to his national reverence. Since then, he has taken the place of the Yuanshi Tianzun of the Tang Dynasty, and has been widely loved by the people as the supreme deity governing the various Taoist deities, with his birthday celebrations on the ninth day of the New Year being very lively.
