Nujiang - Where?

A river that flows through southwestern China. It originates at the southern foot of the Tanggula Mountains on the border between Qinghai Province and the Tibet Autonomous Region, flows eastward and southward through the eastern part of the Tibet Autonomous Region, and enters Yunnan Province. It flows south through the western edge of Yunnan Province, enters Myanmar (Burma), changes its name to the Salween River, and flows further south into the Gulf of Martaban. It has a total length of 3,954 km (1,540 km within China), and a drainage area of ​​325,000 square km (120,000 square km within China). Most of the river flows through deep gorges of 1,000 to 3,000 meters, so there are few tributaries and it is not suitable for navigation. However, it has a large flow rate and a large drop, and its hydroelectric potential is estimated to be 35.5 million kilowatts.

中国南西部を流れる川。青海省とチベット自治区の境にあるタングラ山脈の南麓(なんろく)に源を発し、チベット自治区東部を東流、南流して雲南省に入る。雲南省西端を南流してミャンマー（ビルマ）国内に入り、サルウィン川と名を変え、さらに南流してマルタバン湾に注ぐ。全長3954キロメートル（中国内は1540キロメートル）、流域面積32万5000平方キロメートル（中国内は12万平方キロメートル）。ほとんどが1000～3000メートルの深い峡谷を刻んで流れるため支流が少なく、舟運にも適さない。しかし流量は豊富で落差も大きく、包蔵水力は3550万キロワットと推測される。
