Akeai Tomb - Akeai Tomb

Japanese:
Akeai Tomb - Akeai Tomb
<br /> An ancient tomb in Ano-cho, Tsu City, Mie Prefecture. It is located at the eastern end of a low hill extending from the eastern foot of Mt. Kyogamine, in the middle reaches of the Ano-gawa River. It is a large square tomb (double-sided medium-sized tomb) with a side of about 60m and a height of about 10m. Its unique form with square projections on both the north and south sides, and the remains of a moat remain in some places, making it extremely unique among ancient tombs in Japan . The mound is built in two tiers, 8.5m high, with projections of 8m and 13.5m long respectively. There are five secondary square tombs in the surrounding area, with the largest, No. 2, being in good condition. Cylindrical , shield -shaped, and lid-shaped figurative haniwa have been excavated from the main tomb and secondary tombs, and it is believed to have been built in the first half of the middle Kofun period (first half of the 5th century). It was designated a national historic site in 1952. Take the Mie Kotsu bus from Tsushinmachi Station on the Kintetsu Nagoya Line to "Free Akeai" and walk for about 15 minutes.
