A deciduous shrub of the Rosaceae family (APG classification: Rosaceae). Also known as Button Ibara. It grows to a height of about 1 meter. It is a type of raspberry, with angular stems and scattered thorns. The leaves are alternate, odd-pinnate, and compound, with 3-5 leaflets. The leaflets are oblong, pointed at the tip, have double fine sawtooth edges, and the surface is indented along the veins. In May, a single double white flower, 5-6 cm in diameter, blooms upwards at the end of a twig. Native to China. It was first mentioned as Koyaoki in Kaibara Ekiken's Kafu (1694). It is propagated by growing a small seedling that grows from an underground stem.
