Japanese: トガリバガ(尖翅蛾) - トガリバガ

A general term for insects in the Thyatiridae family of the Lepidoptera order. They are closely related to the Cicada and Geometridae families, and their wings are long and slender, similar to those of the Noctuidae moths. They are found all over the world except Australia and oceanic islands, but the largest number of species is in Southeast Asia, and 38 species are found in Japan. Most species are medium-sized with a wingspan of 3 to 4 cm, but some species exceed 4 cm. The forewings have markings, but the hindwings are almost patternless and have a simple color. The chest and back of the abdomen are covered with dense bunches of scale hairs, and the forewings are folded up into a roof shape to raise the bunches of hair, giving them an extremely unique appearance.
