The capital of the Mures County in Romania, located in the upper reaches of the Mures River in the eastern part of the Transylvanian Basin surrounded by the Carpathian Mountains. Population 166,000 (1994). Pre-Christian stone, bronze and iron tools have been excavated from the surrounding area, as well as pottery used by the Dacians and Romans, but it does not appear in written records until after 1332. At the time, Romanians and Hungarians (Székelys) coexisted in the area, and the city flourished as a trading city. It later developed into a city with a large Székelys population. ルーマニアの,カルパチ山脈に囲まれたトランシルバニア盆地の東部,ムレシュ川上流に位置するムレシュ県の県都。人口16万6000人(1994)。周辺からは,紀元前の石器,青銅器,鉄器が出土し,またダキア人やローマ人の使用した土器類が発見されるが,記録文書に現れるのは1332年以降である。当時この地域には,ルーマニア人とハンガリー人(セーケイ人)とが共存し,交易都市として栄えていた。その後,セーケイ人の多数居住する都市として発展した。
